Cigarettes After Sex Announce Shanghai Show in this November

Presented by Resonate Cities

American ambient pop band Cigarettes After Sex will return to China for a headline performance in Shanghai in November 2018, presented by Resonate Cities. Following the band’s acclaimed China performances the previous year, the show also marks their return with two new singles, Crush and Sesame Syrup.

Founded in 2008 by vocalist and songwriter Greg Gonzalez, Cigarettes After Sex quickly established a distinctive sound that blends dream pop, slowcore, and ambient pop with intimate songwriting and Gonzalez’s unmistakable androgynous vocals. Despite having released only one studio album at the time, the band had already built a devoted global audience through strong album sales and hundreds of millions of streams. Their breakthrough song Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby was also featured in acclaimed television series including The Handmaid’s Tale, Shameless, and The Sinner.

Released after a three-year hiatus, Crush and Sesame Syrup continue the band’s signature cinematic aesthetic and dreamlike atmosphere, exploring themes of love, desire, and memory through understated yet emotionally resonant songwriting. Gonzalez has often cited cinema as one of his greatest creative influences, an inspiration that continues to shape the band’s evocative visual and musical identity.

The Shanghai performance will feature favourites including Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby, Apocalypse, and Sunsetz, alongside the newly released singles, offering audiences another opportunity to experience Cigarettes After Sex’s immersive and intimate live performance.
