Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand will return to China in December 2018 for a series of performances presented by Resonate Cities. The itinerary includes appearances at Strawberry Music Festival Guangzhou and Strawberry Music Festival Shenzhen, alongside a headline show in Shanghai. The tour follows the release of the band’s fifth studio album, Always Ascending, and marks their first China performances in support of the new record.

Formed in Glasgow in 2002, Franz Ferdinand emerged as one of the defining bands of the post-punk revival, earning international acclaim for their sharp guitar-driven sound and danceable rhythms. Their self-titled debut album won the Mercury Prize in 2004, while the breakthrough single Take Me Out became one of the defining rock songs of the decade.

The band’s subsequent albums — You Could Have It So Much Better, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, and Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action — saw them continue to expand their sound by incorporating electronic and dance influences while retaining the energy and immediacy that defined their early work. Released in 2018, Always Ascending introduced a refreshed lineup and marked the beginning of a new creative chapter for the band.

Bringing together music from across their acclaimed catalogue alongside new material from Always Ascending, the China tour offers audiences the opportunity to experience one of Britain’s most influential live bands across both festival and headline performances.
