New Zealand indie rock band The Beths will return to China in October 2026 for two headline shows in Shanghai and Beijing, presented by Resonate Cities. The band will perform at VAS ear in Shanghai on 23 October, followed by OMNISPACE in Beijing on 25 October, with Chinese indie band Puppy’s Bone joining as special guest.

Formed in Auckland in 2014, The Beths consist of vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter Elizabeth Stokes, guitarist and producer Jonathan Pearce, bassist Benjamin Sinclair, and drummer Tristan Deck. All four members have backgrounds in jazz, bringing their musicianship into a distinctive blend of indie rock, power pop, punk energy, and intricate vocal harmonies. Beneath their bright melodies and infectious guitar hooks, Stokes’ songwriting often explores anxiety, self-doubt, relationships, and the complexities of everyday life.

The band broke through internationally with their 2018 debut album, Future Me Hates Me. Its follow-ups, Jump Rope Gazers and Expert In A Dying Field, saw The Beths expand their sound while exploring themes of distance, relationships, loss, and growing up. Their fourth studio album, Straight Line Was A Lie, released in 2025, continues that evolution with a more mature and introspective perspective on adulthood while retaining the melodic immediacy at the heart of the band’s music.

In recent years, The Beths have appeared at major festivals including Coachella, Primavera Sound, Newport Folk Festival, and Bonnaroo. Their upcoming Shanghai and Beijing shows will bring together songs from across their four-album catalogue, including material from Straight Line Was A Lie, while showcasing the energetic live performances that have taken the band from Auckland to stages around the world.

Joining both dates as special guest is Puppy’s Bone, a Chinese indie band formed in 2023 whose bright tones and rhythmic songwriting capture their own perspective on contemporary life.
