The North American seven-member indie band Racing Mount Pleasant will kick off its first China tour in August 2026. This tour is presented by ResonateCities and co-presented by Nature Friendship, and will visit cities such as Hefei, Chengdu, Shanghai, and Nanjing, with musicians such as Wachi, Default, Fayzz, and others as guests at some of the shows.
Established in 2019, Racing Mount Pleasant was originally formed by three freshmen just entering the University of Michigan. The band began creating music under the name Kingfisher, and in 2025, it officially changed its name to Racing Mount Pleasant and released the single album of the same name, “Call It Easy,” marking a new phase. In the same month, the band released its second studio album, “Racing Mount Pleasant”.
Racing Mount Pleasant is now composed of seven musicians, including lead singer and guitarist Sam DuBose, trumpeter Callum Roberts, alto saxophonist Connor Hoyt, string player Kaysen Chown, tenor saxophonist Samuel Uribe Botero, bassist Tyler Thenstedt, and drummer Casey Cheatham. The band is characterized by its rich instrumental lineup and collective creation, building a distinct and layered sound system between indie folk, chamber pop, Midwest Emo, and Garage Rock, while integrating elements of Shoegaze, Jazz, and classical arrangements, forming a musical expression that combines delicate emotions with grand dynamics.
In 2022, the band released its debut album “Grip Your Fist, I’m Heaven Bound” under the name Kingfisher, and gained widespread attention for its mature composition and arrangement skills. The “Michigan Daily” praised their work as “outstanding” and “extraordinarily mature.” The same-named album “Racing Mount Pleasant,” released in 2025, took three years to complete and was recorded in six different spaces, telling stories about time, memory, and intimate relationships. It received positive reviews from media and fans for its rich instrumental arrangement and delicate emotional progression. The “New Yorker” once described them as: “Racing Mount Pleasant dwells in the quiet of emotion, yet never sacrifices the grandeur of sound.”
Live performances are one of the most representative features of Racing Mount Pleasant. The multi-layered instrumental, brass, string, and polyphonic harmonies brought by the seven-member lineup continuously propel the progression of musical emotions during the show. The band excels at creating a cinematic live experience through delicate and restrained arrangement, gradually building an immersive musical space for the audience, combining visual elements such as lighting and imagery.
This China tour is also Racing Mount Pleasant’s first visit to China. They will bring their full lineup and live visual content to share their most representative works in recent years with Chinese fans and to co-perform at multiple joint shows with musicians from different cities.
